Kordkuy (former Tamiše ) is located on the west part of the Golestan province. It is connected to Bandar-Torkman  from the north and the west to Bandare Gaz the east to Gorgân and from the south to Dâmâqân of Semnân province. Its south parts are closed with the heights of Alborz (Elbruz) mountains. Kordkuy was a part  of Gorgân until 1979 when it gained town status.

Covering an area of 815.5 square kilometers, kordkuy has a population of  67179 . It is located in the west away from golestan province , 29km of gorgan.

The eastern Alborz mountain range is located in the west of kordkuy , whose most important mountains are : Derazno , Zameh-Kooh , Chalestan , Jahan-Nama and Pelash , towering at 3500 meters above sea level.

Facing northward  , the city includes plains with gentle slopes and extends towards towards Bandar-e Turkmen , Qara-Su river and Gorgan gulf.

Owing to its geographical features , the height of the mountains and its proximity to the Caspian Sea , Kordkuy's plains have a temperate and humid climate, and the weather in its mountainous area is mountainous temperate . Its forests control the humidity of the atmosphere.

The average yearly rainfall of its plains is 500 mm and in mountainous region is 750 mm . The weather turns cold because of the estern and norheastern winds . Having cold and long winters , the average snowfall of the heigts of Derazno , Jahan-Nama and Pelash is about 5-13 meters . Due to the height of the regin, the plants of kordkuy are particulary varied, including farmlands and meadows in footheills and forests in mountainous area with a height of 2400 meters. various trees such as carpinus betulus,parrotia persica, acer sp. quercus castaneifolia and cupressuse sempervirens , etc. grow in these heights. 

acing southward , the thick forests extend towards Derazno mountain rang . The climate of Kordkuy makes possible the most rainfall in autumn and winter .

Because of the steep slope of the lands , numerous rivers exist in the area , som of these are :

Zavvar-Dasht,Ghaze-Mahalleh Kordkuy , Shesh-Dang-e Bala-Jaddeh,Gharb -e-Bala-Jadeh and Miyan-Darreh.

The economy of Kordkuy is based on agriculture, the main products of which are cotton, wheat , rice and soia.Owing to its fertile soil, pastures , forests and meadows , most of of this city's industries are related to agriculture. the most important factories of Kordkuy are : cotton processing , soap boiling , oil-pressing, wood industry and food production for poultry and agglom erated wood .

There are many kind of traditional handcrafts in this city. som of these are : straw plaiting , felt making , wrapper-weaving and woolen socks knitting.
